Goodyear Duraplus lasts up to 100,000km?

Goodyear Duraplus lasts up to 100,000km?

Goodyear DuraplusThe new Goodyear DuraPlus was launched recenlty in Malaysia and the company claims it is able to achieve mileage as much as 100,000km. That sounds like really good news for the budget-conscious consumer who just want to buy something, fit it on and forget about it for the next few years.

The 100,000km figure was obtained during Goodyear’s tests on company tracks in France and Luxembourg, as well as open roads in Thailand. According to Goodyear, 100,000km is a good estimate and the tyres actually lasted even longer during the tests. The tests were conducted using 185/65R14 tyres.

The key behind the durability of the DuraPlus is what they call TredLife Technology, which actually consists of a few key design features that enables the tyre to last longer. A wide face cavity leads to increased footprint and more wearable rubber in contact with the road. A higher land to sea ratio tread depth allows for more wearable rubber.

The tyre also uses a carbon-based tread compound so the tire has a higher resistance to frictional wear, contributing to the tire’s long tread life and also increased mileage due to the lower rolling resistence. A new carcass design incorporating a stronger fabric that provides less resistance to tire rotation, leading to improved fuel efficiency. The tread pattern is assymetric, placing more rubber on the outside shoulder of the tire, resulting in increased grip during cornering.

11 sizes are available in Malaysia, for 13 inch to 15 inch wheels. The Duraplus replaces the Goodyear GT3 in the Malaysian line-up.

盆踊りbon odori 33rd 2009-part 1

Every year, for the past 33 years, Bon Odori was shared with locals by Japanese. Introducing the culture through various means. Entrance and participation is free. We particularly enjoyed their sponsorship for this event.

In comparison to the celebrations in Japan, the festival is celebrated on a much smaller scale in Penang and Selangor, and is less associated with Buddhism and more with Japanese culture. Held mainly to expose locals to a part of Japanese culture, the festival provides the experience of a variety of Japanese food & drinks, art and dance.

Here, we try to document the event as it unfolds. We arrived at 6pm, after searching for a parking spot.

Then we went on to get the fan (complimentary). This year's fan was in blue.

Showtime was scheduled at 7:45pm, so we had some ice creams.
Japanese Ice-cream at $6/- :p

Near showtime, the T-shirts says it all.

Showtime with the dance and drums.
Three dances on stage. Stage is about 5 ft high with bars.

RANGER for repair

Today I sent my RANGER to Ford SC (auto connextion) near federal highway, I felt the ranger was losing some power and torque was low. There's a jerk before gear change. Particularly for low gears (1st-2nd). Fearing for my transmission, I called my SC and was asked politely to send the RANGER to them.At 11am, the SC jack up the RANGER, and I went under to inspect, accompanied by the service technician. The technicial tried moving the universal joint. The Universal joint is made of three separate joint connecting the shaft to the back wheels. These joint was loose. It cannot be tighten. This was due to wear and tear as they explained it. My ODO shows 45,000km. The next Ranger that came in had same problem at 47000KM. From WIKIPEDIA, A universal joint, U joint, is a joint in a rigid rod that allows the rod to 'bend' in any direction, and is commonly used in shafts that transmit rotary motion. It consists of a pair of hinges located close together, oriented at 90° to each other, connected by a cross shaft. When we accelerate the torque spins this joints causing wear and tear, That's also a reason the low gear suffers more. I actually feel the car jerks at low gear, low speed. I was informed that I need to change, not service, not re-inforce these 3 joints. Luckily the joints for my 4x4 system was still good. It's the three Universal-joints for the 4x2 that gave up. I'll tell u the cost later as the RANGER is still in SC as I type. p.s: That's why cleaning my KNN did nothing.

Lemon to pure land

Lemon : we found him in the parking lot of a mall and took him in as our pet. In time he grew to become our friend. We miss him.

So many things has happened since my last posting.

Lemon (my budgie) passed away on 3rd July 2009 and was taken to pure land. (i pray).

Lemon has shown different characteristic and was extremely friendly with us. He also ate a lot more. (huge appetite)

I did not notice any illness on his cere, beak or feathers. However he was not flying much. So we scheduled an appointment with the Vet that we found online. We also emailed a bloke whose bird had similar budgie symptoms. He was in the UK.

Anyway, long story short, we put Lemon in his cage to make the journey to the Vet. Unfortunately before getting there he passed away, in the condo. (may his rebirth in pure land usher a road to enlightenment).

We had known something was not so right. Some sixth sense telling us his time is near. Maybe Lemon knew it too. Lemon played with us more and we cherished every moment he shared with us.

We do hope to meet again in pureland.
