Shinjuku Incident with Jackie Chan, Pavillion

Hi blog,
There I was trying to be a paparazo. Here's Jackie Chan for Shinjuku Incident promo tour.
Suddenly it began to rain just as Jackie and Daniel Wu arrive to meet the fans. Poor me got wet and camera gears got a wash too.

Then I had a lucky break to capture Jackie just as he was about to leave. Apparently his schedule was cut short due to the rain. Read more about this new upcoming movie to be released in Malaysia on 2nd April 2009!

Wikipedia: Shinjuku Incident (traditional Chinese: 新宿事件, Japanese: 新宿インシデント) is an upcoming 2009 Hong Kong film starring Jackie Chan and directed by Derek Yee. Filming began in November of 2007, and is now complete. The film, now in post-production, is being produced by Chan's own film company, JCE Movies Limited. On July 16, 2007, it was officially announced that Chan would take part in the project.[1][2]

It has been stated in many press reports that the genre of the film will be closer to drama than Chan's trademark action. Director Derek Yee reportedly said, "People are too familiar with the image of a fighting Jackie Chan. It’s time for him to move on to drama."[3] In a recent interview, Chan himself describes the film as, "maybe one per cent action. Heavy drama."[4]

Early reports indicated that Chan's son, Jaycee Chan, would also play a role, but this has yet to be confirmed. The film was originally to be released on September 25, 2008 but was delayed to the first quarter of 2009. It was premiered at the 2009 Hong Kong International Film Festival and will be released on 2 April 2009 in Hong Kong and Malaysia!

The club scene. (past photo)

This was shot 21 months ago. Yup, you read it correctly, it's an old collection shot.

The club was smoky and not particularly good for photography. Having said that, I was on assignment for a club event. One of the rare cases.

Well, it's been a while since I did this sort of photos. Can't really stand the smoke in the club that gets onto the camera and camera bag. Really disgusting. Yuuuccckkksss!

Digital Camera, Imaging & Media Show 2009 (DCIM Show 2009), MidValley Exhibition Center pt II

Pt II,

So heaps of complains from the people who attended DCIM 2009. Generally this was a show, not a bazaar for selling. Anyway, I got my chance to hold and capture a few shots using a D3X. I cannot afford one nor need to purchase one yet. Olympus and Sony could not make the show, a bummer for those fans.

The Velocity Angel search received lots of complains starting with the lights (too warm as they say), short runway (causing a pack crowd of photographers) and photographer stage that was too small (only for the official photographer use).

Some said (using forums) that the event organizers were over ambitious. Well, I had a blast of a time there. I adapted well. ( did I mentioned I bought myself a new tripod,).

I thought the Canon photo-book printing service is a great way to encourage prints. I love my photos printed and recently completed a portfolio for my dearest too!

I will wait till next year for DCIM 2010. Here are some photos.

Als0, NIKON gave us a product show with Brazilian models. Uh-la-la! (next upload)

Digital Camera, Imaging & Media Show 2009 (DCIM Show 2009), MidValley Exhibition Center

Dear blog,

We went to

"Digital Camera, Imaging & Media Show 2009 (DCIM Show 2009), MidValley Exhibition Center"

It's a photography showcase. Something similar to Photokina etc. The point is to show and allow users to test new equipments. It's not a cash and carry photography bazaar as many had misunderstood.

So, if you want to get accessories, then fine, there are good sales and promos. I got myself a new tripod. Haha.

Then, there's the Model "Velocity Angel" search. Which drew almost 100 (approx) or more photographers to take young lass called the Angels. I too managed some photos, mind you, it was was crowded with photographers. So, considering the scenario, I think I did pretty decent.

Ha-ha, enjoy some of the fruits of my labour ya. Hope you enjoy these shots.

More Ferrari photos.

The toy Ferrari

I wanted to display this toy Ferrari, the toy itself lacks details and is not exactly a miniature model. Some post processing gimmicks were added for fun.

Photo for today- photo taking made easy

If you want to capture this shot with shallow depth of field, (aka, bokeh), that's Japanese wording for depth of field (DOF). I suggest a long lens. I used a 100mm for this and allowed the aperture, f-stop to be 2.8, ISO settings means nothing here.

What this need is the f-2.8 (aperture or f-stop), and a >50 mm rangeto limit the DOF (blurring the background) so that the foreground is sharp and noticeable.

I tried this on a dslr and then used a compact camera to repeat the feat. I did not want to upload the compact camera result because it is rubbish.

Compacts have small sensors (photo-sensors) and thus all (photos) are very detailed. you need to focus on a subject and the bluring will be the object far away, (approx, 50m) to achieve bokeh. Even at f2.8.

I normally tell my friends to blur these via post processing. Yeah, it looks bad but you cannot win them all. If you really want great bokeh, then you need to isolate (around 50m) the subject from the foreground. The lantern shots like above is difficult, if not impossible to achieve.

Using compact, another good way to isolate is using a soft-filter (55mm thread), take two shot one with the soft filter and one without, then in post processing merge one onto another and erase to make it sharp or blur depending on which layer was on top.

A helping hand @ Damoen Saduak

This street or should I say river candid was shot in the floating market Damoen Saduak, which is a floating market and a tourist spot,

The ride from Bangkok (capital of Thailand), takes a mere 45-50 mins depending on traffic. We used a small mini-van that seats 7 passengers.

Reaching the market as early as 9 am, we were a few lucky visitors that managed to shop, eat (local food only) and snap photos before the crowd came in. By 10 am, the boats were jammed up and down the river. The guide told us that this was very normal. It's called the "boat jam"

The rental of boat is a mere USD 2.50, that's relatively affordable. For honeymooners, there's personal boat that goes up to USD 15.00, that gives a private tour of the floating market. Clever idea really.

We had a blast of a time here at the floating market and it's like a mini Venice.

1st Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2009

My dearest captured this on her adventure at the 1st. International Hot air Fiesta @ putrajaya.

Well, starting off early, this was the "glow show" -where the hot air balloons will lit up by the firing flames.

Indeed, I love this shot. That's why I'm blogging it. Simply fantastic.

Evening sunset II

OK, I think this shot with flare looks better than without. I like the shadows, I like the details and most of all, I love it when my compact camera gave me this. What more can I ask for?

EARTH HOUR

This is an awareness exercise. To really protect the environment, we have to recycle, reduce pollution, implements sustainable pollution controls and companies get audited (ISO 140001)

We have to get the trees protected and the open burnings reduced and eliminated. We need to think about carbon, carbon dioxide,- the green house effect.

After the awareness, we got to get working. Else, we are doomed.

plans

This shot is a bit small, however, these are plans used in my work, so I decided to glorify them by using my small compact camera and .....here's the result.

The workplace is not a boring place for photography

Street candids

This street candid was great with pigeons waiting to be fed.

She's amazing

This was shot during a recent fashion show outing. Well, it's been months since I last went out for events like this.

So I decided to share this with some post processing.

Why I shot this.

Some shots are precious, I like action of this sort. Timing them proved challenging yet satisfying when it's captured.

I fired flash and anticipated the kick. As my flash needs time to recycle it's battery power, I can only afford up to 3 shots continuously. This proved enough in this case. I chose this outstretched kick as it has dramatic impact. A wide angle was chosen @ 18mm on a DX body and that's precisely what I wanted. To show the students watching and learning the fight.

I was patience, to get the drop

It's not easy to get this drop, hence it's not about the action, but the speed to get it. Luckily my flash power was up to it. The shutter speed alone was not enough as I did this shot indoors.
The leaves were tea-leaves, after soaking and drinking the tea, of course.

Set-up: flash power, manual, @ 1/8 that's about right to get the drops.
Shutter speed at 1/300s, I used a small aperture of 16.
ISO-smallest one i.e. 200

Wonderful images -

My Sunday workshop

Well, today it's much photography using a mushroom my dearest found for me. Although I suspect these are wild ones, I presume touching them is Okay.

The photo-session with these beauties are just lovely, I selected two here for the moment. More over at my Flickr website.

The set-up : One flash light from the side, one more portable hand-held at the other end.
I mounted my D70s on a cheap KEEP tripod.

Front and back shots as that's where the interests lies. Hope you enjoy them.

RIPS to rest internet radio, the name irony.

Singapore’s web radio services go offline over royalty issue

By CHUA HIAN HOU (The-STAR-Online)

SINGAPORE: A dispute over licence fees has forced most of Singapore’s radio stations to stop streaming online.

Following an amendment to the Copyright Act last November, the Recording Industry Performance Singapore (RIPS) asked radio broadcasters to pay an annual licensing fee if they wanted to continue their Internet radio service.

The name gave this article such irony, RIPS- resting the internet-media in peace?
