DAY 3: Mission Failed.

Day 4: We have made every effort from searching the entire housing area (since he got outdoors) to asking and putting photos of the budgie (same photo as posted). We searched twice a day; morning and evening. We put the cage outdoors because he recognizes his cage.(he does not live in a cage and free flies in our home) We used the budgie's own voice recorded to MP3 and broadcast. Still no results.

Day 5: We almost given up hope. Today I climbed to the roof, put up a recording of budgie's calls. Then waited. I got his cage up there so that the bird can come in. (again, he is not caged and is a free flying bird). I am getting philosophical with this incident. :(

Day 5: Evening. Today upon returning from a jog/searching for the bird. (we had the recordings played when we jogged). Our neighbors said that they saw the bird near their plantation trees. He has got new friends. (3 friends +himself=4 birds). Our bird still feels clumsy with the others. With this news, we are glad. Distance from plantation (site spotted) to our house is 100-150 meters. At one point, he even chirped behind our home but we could only hear it not see the bird. If it can fend for itself, making friends in the wild, then freedom belongs to him. We really feel happy for him. We sprinkled some seeds for him and other birds near the spotted side. Hopefully he stays there and one day we can see him.....again!

Day 6: We have not spotted our bird. We put out his other cage (he stands on the cage when he wants to rest). Some millet, that I just found out does not interest other birds. So it's just regular seeds offered by us.
We continue to sprinkle seeds for all birds. (seems to be eaten fast). I don't even see the seed husk. Anyway, I hope to spot our bird....one day.

Additional info: We tried dividing our housing area into roughly four zones encompassing a 1km radius.
Then we played a recording of the bird's calling (or other bird if possible, download fr internet).
We also worked with feeding seeds (make sure the other birds eat those seeds). The idea is to attract birds to one place including the lost bird. This works better than the sound technique.(70% success) Sound has a limitation with amplification over a vast area. We had to jog to cover other areas while broadcasting the sound recording in our MP3/handphone connected to an external speaker. Normally this scares the birds. (50% success)

We are cutting down efforts to capture the bird. This is because I value freedom, I think birds should be free. That was why we let him fly freely in our home. We are also glad our "baby" can make friends in his hours of need. We"parents" always worry for our pets.
Now, it's up to our bird to come home or set up home near the plantation trees. (we can still feed it seeds daily). :)

We leave a stem of millet in our front porch. For days, no birds touches the food. One day, the millet stem was lost, can't find it anywhere. Hence, we put out another millet stem peg with a cloth hanger. Again, for days it was untouched. Today, the millet was eaten (3/4 taken away). We have no idea which bird does this. Does a rat eat millet? We are not sure yet. My regular bird seeds also eaten.
